There's Still Time To Renew Your Membership

If you missed our annual membership renewal picnic you can still renew by contacting Bill Coulter (954-292-4310) or Eric Helfritz (954-303-8619). ALL MEMBERS must fill out a new application and submit it with the appropriate fees before obtaining a new key. Unlike the cost of fuel, food and everything else, membership dues DID NOT increase this year (for the 4th year in a row)! However, club members will now be required to become NFAA members in order to renew their Fort Lauderdale Archers club membership. Our club is the last archery club in Florida to require this membership. NFAA memberships begin at $50 for an Individual, $59 for an Individual with 1 dependant, etc. Please visit the NFAA website at www.floridaarchery.org for cost options.
Please bring your key to exchange it for a new key.

Interested In Trying Archery?

Not a member, but interested in archery? Please know that Fort Lauderdale Archers does not offer lessons, provide equipment (even on a rental basis) or allow individuals to come out and shoot on a daily, weekly, monthly rate. Our club is for individuals who already have their own equipment and are looking to join on a yearly basis. However, if you are interested in archery and need some guidance, go to Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World and take the elevator to the second floor. There, you will be able to rent and shoot different bows and determine whether or not you want to commit to the sport. If so, come join us at Fort Lauderdale Archers and participate in leagues, club shoots, or simply access the club 24/7 on your own time.

Board Meetings

(Open To All Members)
Do you have questions, concerns or constructive input for our Board? Ever wonder how funds are being spent or how decisions involving the club are made? Members may not realize that monthly Board meetings are open for their participation. We welcome your attendance the first Wednesday night of each month at 7:00 p.m.

Olympic Medalist Marie-Pier Beaudet Trains At FLA

Newsletter-MarieCanadian born Marie-Pier Beaudet, a two-time Olympian who captured Bronze in 2010, visited Fort Lauderdale Archers as a guest to train with her coach the week of April 11-18. Due to cold weather conditions in Canada, she had not been able to shoot outdoors since early last Fall. The following week (April 20-25) Marie participated in The Continenta Qualification Americas in Medelin, Columbia. Marie not only won the tournament, she set a new Canadian record for Female Olympic Recurve. The win (shooting 70 Meters) also gained Canada a quota spot in the women's division at the London Olympics in July. We wish the best of luck to Marie.

All Members: Use of Field Course

Please remember to use the field courses as roving courses, moving from one target to the next until the course is complete. If you remain on one target for an extended period of time, you will eventually cause unnecessary damage to individual target butts. The flint range is provided for continued practice use.

Congratulations Doc Brandfass

Newsletter-Doc

Some of the greatest archery talents gathered in Yankton, SD last month for a nine day World Outdoor Archery Festival hosted for the first time by both the NFAA and USA Archery. Our very own David (Doc) Brandfass gave an amazing performance by placing 2nd in the USAA FIELD NATIONALS, Master Male Olympic Recurve division and 2nd place in the NFAA OUTDOOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, Senior Male Freestyle Ltd. Recurve/Longbow division. Congratulations Doc!

Does Anyone Remember...

Does anyone remember this old Fort Lauderdale Archers sign? When taking down the old club sign to have a new one made this was found. Doc believes it was the Club Sign from the property at Executive Airport . . . and it was old at that time! It has been at our club since 1985.

Covered Dishes Requested

Variety certainly is the spice of life. So members, please bring your favorite covered dish when attending State and Club shoots. Anything is welcome, from salads and appetizers to meats, side dishes or even desserts!

Bringing A Guest To The Club?

Members, please remember... The definition of a guest is as follows: A prospective member/person who has never been a member in the past that is interested in archery who attends/uses the facilities accompanied by a current member one and one time only. Due to insurance regulations, all guests and members must sign in. In an effort to better enforce membership, proof of membership ID must be visible at all times (on bow cases/quivers is suggested).

Lock the Gate

If you are the first one to arrive on club property, please close the lock on the front gate, as it will be hard to lock the gate if someone else decides to steal the open lock.

Help Keep Our Club Clean

Just a friendly reminder for all members... Don't be afraid to pick up trash, remove and discard old targets or even empty the trash cans now and then. A little goes a long way!

Work Party Credits!

These days everyone is a little short on spare time, and coming out for a work party can be a scheduling nightmare. But did you know you could earn work party credit any day of the month? We always need assistance making new targets, setting up & breaking down shoot courses, helping at shoot events, overall cleanup and general repairs and maintenance tasks. If you would like to earn work party credits and need ideas, contact Bill at 954-292-4310. Did you do your part in 2009?
